CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #38 Colours

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Birthday Plaid

Sorry, I’m running crazy this week. The only thing I wanted to mention on this card is that I chose a bold sentiment and stamped it in black because I saw a Jennifer McGuire card recently like that.

Sometimes I think black is just too stark, but I think when you have lots of busy-ness going on, black works great (especially since, for me, the greeting is the point and thus should be the focus).

I’m still not completely sure about this card, but I’m not sure any other color for the sentiment would have worked as well either.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #37 Sketch

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Telephone

This is such a great go-to sketch! I had so many options for this card it was hard to decide. I finally chose the telephone just so it could have a little love.

I knew I wanted to stamp the phone in blue, so I looked for some pattern paper that wouldn’t overwhelm the focal image, but also allow the loop de loop die to show up.

The rhinestone is a clear one that I colored with Copic marker Y35.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #36

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Modern Silhouettes

These colors felt very modern to me. I chose Summer Silhouettes because it had great solid images as well as the perfect border image.

I white embossed the border image on my card base. My main white panel is adhered to the right and popped-up.

The large pink flower is cut-out and popped-up. I added a grey stamped center and a rhinestone.

Miss You So Much

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #35 - Sketch

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Giraffe Longing

I haven’t played with my Paper Smooches stamps in a while, so I broke them out for this sketch.

I chose the giraffe image because it suits the sketch. Then I had to find a sentiment that would fit in the speech bubble. I chose a miss you sentiment because I can pop this card in my hubby’s suitcase for his next trip.

After laying out the pieces, I felt the card was too plain. I decided to doodle a frame. That is always so scary to me, but I thought it went with the fun & cute feel of the images.

Masculine Birthday Wishes

CAS Colours & Sketch Challenge #34

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Masculine Birthday

My hubby’s birthday is in a few weeks. I thought this week’s color challenge paired with a moose image would make a great card for him. I did use a sketch from dahlhouse blog.

After doing a watercolor wash with Summer Starfruit in the background, I decided that the panel was a bit plain, so I used some old Smooch Spritz and the Spritzer tool to add some splots of the dark brown color.

Washi Day

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #33

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Washi Day

When I saw this sketch, using washi tape as a couple of the layers was the first thing that came to mind.

I love watching trends – and I usually buy whatever it is – but I hardly ever participate until well after the trend. I think this is the first time I’ve used washi!

I was worried about putting tape down, but I was really happy with how easy it was to pull it up and re-position it (a few times, lol).

Since this card is really simple, I added some dimension with lots of foam tape between the layers and embossing on the card base.

Flower Spot

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge: #32 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #32

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Flower Spot

This is such a fun color scheme, I wanted my card to be fun too.

To get the flowers all lined up, I first drew a grid on my paper. I did 1″ squares with a 1/4″ between them. After I stamped the blue flowers I set it aside to make sure it was dry (I’ve smudged in the past and didn’t want to do it again). Once I had stamped and cut all the other pieces, I finally erased the grid lines.

The fish-tail banner is popped up on dimensionals. The orange flower is popped up too, but only on the edges that hang over the banner; I used a drop of glue to adhere the flower to the banner.

Sherbet Butterflies

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #31

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Sherbet Butterflies

Since I have both punches that coordinate with the butterfly stamp set, I knew using butterflies would be a breeze on this card. I adhered the butterflies with a dab of liquid glue to their middles – leaving the wings free for fluffing. The shadows created from fluffing the wings gives a lot of dimension and (hopefully) keeps the card from being boring.

Colorful Mehndi

CAS Colours & Sketch Challenge #30

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Colorful Mehndi

On my Pinterest board I have a few Middle Eastern type pins – and they have one thing in common – color! They have the amazing ability to combine colors. This is what I thought about as I designed this card.

My card is a CASE of Kim’s wonderful wreath card (seen here). I know she was following a sketch, but, in addition to the great layout, I loved her centered image with white on white background as well.

The Mehndi Medallion image is gold embossed and then watercolored. Here is a detail show:

Country Berries

CAS Colours & Sketches - Challenge #29

And here is my take:

by Karen @ carefree creations - Country Berries

I think I’m in love with this gingham wheel! The other gingham stamps I have in my collection are more “builder” ones where the edges are open on one side so you can line it up and make large swaths of pattern. The wheel has finished edges and so is perfect for single stamping (and we won’t talk about how I tried to connect them last time, lol). I’ve never considered myself a lover of “country” style, but I could get used to this wheel!

Honestly I was stuck with this sketch at first, so as I do when I’m stuck, I went to my Pinterest board looking for inspiration. I recently pinned Danielle’s card (the first one here) where she paired gingham and strawberries. And that just totally worked for me. I love Pinterest!

I didn’t want the strawberries and little white flowers to get lost in the green gingham, so I stamped those onto die cuts. The flowers are glued directly to the panel and the strawberries are popped. And now that I’m seeing the image on screen, I might go back and add little yellow centers to the flowers.
