Gift Card Slider

The clinic aid at our elementary school is moving to another school. She is such a wonderful person – funny and caring. I wanted to give her a little token of thanks. I haven’t had a lot of stamping time this week, but today I had to get this card done now (since today is her last day, eek!). She loves Starbucks, so that is the gift card inside of this:

I used a bit of cardstock and pattern paper to make a faux tissue box for the front. I punched a little slot in the “top” and stuck a piece of facial tissue through.

Here it is “open”:

I really love making these slider cards as gift card holders. I do have to alter the dimensions just as smidge to accomodate the gift card (and because I write on the slider panel) – the small slider panel is a 2 1/2 square.

Sweet Pea Blossom

by karen @ carefree creations - Sweet Pea Blossom

A few months ago I made a card using the Sweet Pea set and my mom asked that I send her the card (to give to a friend), but I needed that card for the RAK group – and mom didn’t need the card until Feb, so I told her I’d make another.

We’ll I decided I needed to get working on it, or I’d forget til it was too late. When I saw the latest RetroSketch I knew it would be perfect. Of course this card isn’t anything like the one mom saw, but hopefully this will still work!

I had gotten the entire card done – just finished adding the little green tendrils, when I dropped ink pad on the card!!! After some choice words I decided it was a blessing in disguise as I had originally stamped the frame in a different color and I wasn’t loving it. Now I could change it and not feel bad about wasting the paper because it was already ruined.

Pocketful of Love

by karen @ carefree creations - Pocketful of Love

When I first saw the latest Fall-to-Layout at Clean & Simple, I thought about using an envelope. But when I started looking for sentiments, I ran across the pocket set and decided that would be fun!

Another card I’ll be sending to OWH.

Balloon Filled Year

CAS Colours & Sketches challenge is back! And I’m the hostess for January. This first week is a sketch challenge; check it out: #56 – sketch.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #56

This sketch was inspired by a Bug’s Life poster I found on Pinterest.

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Balloon Filled Year

I had an idea for this sketch as soon as I designed it, but when it came time to actually get stamping for it, I had forgotten my original design. Then I remembered this card by Debby @ lime doodle. I love that the balloons are at the bottom of the card (and not at the top where ‘expected’). I pinned that card months ago but since I didn’t want to just copy it I hadn’t gotten around to casing it. But now is the time!

I chose not to mask the balloons because mylar balloons are translucent.

I’m still deciding if I should have added strings to the balloons, but I was afraid they would take away from the design.

365 Day Trip

by karen @ carefree creations - 365 Day Trip

I missed a nephew’s 18th birthday! I made this card to send to him – even if it is late.

It is a bit more noticeable in person, but the last line of the sentiment is inked with dark blue – it is a nice little contrast to all the brown.

Happy Hello

by karen @ carefree creations - Happy Hello

I’ve always found one-layer cards to be a challenge, but one I want to take.

The One Layer Simplicity Challenge has changed its format to a monthly challenge (instead of weekly). I think that is doable for me.

This month’s challenge is to “restock the shelves”. I definitely need more general hello cards. This particular one won’t be on the shelf for long – I want to send it to my niece who will be back at college any day now.

Always Been You

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the last challenge for the year: #55 – colors.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #55

And here is my take:

by karen @ carefree creations - Always Been You

Sketches with layers always confound me! I’m a pretty clean and simple stamper, not very layer-y 🙂 So, as usual, when I get a sketch that confounds me, I went to my stamp index and favorite cards. I found a card I did eons ago that used playing cards – perfect!

I made these playing cards using different stamps. I’ve actually done this before – I like making the playing cards because you can tailor them to the colors and design you want for your card.

Birthday Mums

Another flower set I love. There is just something about the lines of this flower that I love.

Again, no challenge followed, just started moving stamps around until I liked the composition.

Birthday Flowers

Although this is the first time I’ve inked up this set, I love it – between the ferns and Queen Anne’s Lace flowers this set really speaks to me.

I didn’t follow any challenge for this card, just die-cut and stamped a few images and started moving them around the card.

CAS(e) This Sketch

I am so honored to be invited as a guest designer this week at CAS(e) This Sketch! Sketches are my favorite type of challenge – and CTS provides a perfect clean-and-simple layout every week! This week is:

CASe This Sketch #55

And here is my card:

by karen @ carefree creations - My Everything

Lately I’ve been seeing so many lovely projects using pattern paper that I was inspired to use some on my card.

I need to find a good ultra fine white embossing powder – does that exist? If so, please tell me! I would like to have embossed my sentiment but all I had was was to thick.
