Nine Lives

This post is dedicated to the new Nine Lives set by Paper Smooches (released Jan 1).

kth_encourage_YourePurrrty

When I first saw the solid image in this set, I thought about the thumping technique.

Thumping is pretty easy, you just need a solid stamp and a marker. I inked up the solid kitty with yellow and then thumped an orange marker around the head and back to make stripes.

kth_handmade_CatScratch

For my next card I created my own background paper with the little accoutrement images from the Nine Lives set.

Check back Friday for another card I made with this set.

Thanks for stopping by!

Yellow Rose

kth_sympathy_yellowrose - Copy

This is my final sympathy card I created recently. All three cards are for the same family – a family dear to my husband.

I was going to do a blue rose, but my husband suggested yellow/brown. Though I was skeptical and did decide, after experimenting, that kraft was the wrong shade of brown, I tried again. This time I used Fine Linen as the brown and it really turned out well.

I totally meant to emboss/impress the vanilla layer, but completely forgot until I had it tapped down, but really I think it is fine without.

Thanks for taking a peek!

FYI – Birthday Shells

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI37.

FYI37_2013-01-03

This is a cool photo. I loved the white clouds on the blue sky. And the photo theme allowed me to make a birthday card for my beach-loving mom.

kth_bday_textshells

I embossed the shells with white powder. Since the shells have a text background to them, I added a strip of text paper and wrapped it up with some string.

One note, my embossing has never been this good. I had been blaming old powder, but even after a fresh batch I had issues. Why it took me so long, I don’t know – but I finally re-inked my Versamark pad. And now I have perfect embossing! I need to get better at re-inking everything!

A final note, my card is a bit shorter than normal (5 1/4 x 4 1/4). The reason is that I did not stamp my sentiment straight. I straightened it up by trimming the panel, then just trimmed my card base to match. Just another way to save a card.

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #6 – colours.

The color scheme is very earthy. To make the card light, I used the colors in little bits and kept lots of white space.

Needle Little Love

This post is all about the new Needle Little Love set from Paper Smooches (Jan 1).

kth_hello_fauxsewborder

This is probably my favorite card I created for the Guest Designer spot. I felt so clever when I figured out how well the sentiment lent itself to make the frame!

kth_love_SewMuch

This card started when I realized I could divide the card into sections by using the straight stitch image. Then I saw that it made 6 sections – and what else has 6…rainbows!

Birthday Squares

kth_bday_rainbowsquares

I created this card for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge (#5 – sketch). I must say it was an intimidating sketch to begin with.

It didn’t take me long though to think about those intersecting bits of the sketch and how if I stamped the squares I could make a rainbow – my favorite color 😉

To finish up the card, I embossed a frame around the sentiment – that really helped with the focus and still kept the card simple.

Baja Swirls

kth_thanks_swirlyblues

I created this card for the latest Paper Smooches Sparks challenge (a photo inspiration).

I love the white and blue color scheme. I also loved the white on white text, but I wanted the text to stand out on my card, so I kept the white text, but placed it on blue.

My card is a slim card at 3 3/4 wide (the blue strip is 4 1/4) – just something to create some interest with such a simple layout.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Thanks

Inspired

albis4_spillmannechsle

As I was pinning earlier this week, I ran across this photo that caught my eye (Photo Source). I love the basket weave pattern on the diagonal.

Since I had some free time today, I decided to catch up on some challenges.

I decided to use this staircase photo as my inspiration along with the current CAS Colours & Sketches challenge (#4) – a color challenge using Night of Navy, Pool Party, and So Saffron.

kth_thinkingofyou_paperstrips

I started by die cutting the Midnight Muse strip. I ran that through my Xyron and attached it to a Vanilla strip (so I could easily play around with its position and not have anything showing through). I picked out some patterns in the other colors and then played around with their order and how much of each would be visible.

I also played with whether the patterns would be diagonal or straight on but cut at an angle. Since I used the border die on a diagonal, I kept the patterns that way too.

Let’s Be Merry

I needed another Christmasy card and the current Paper Smooches Color challenge was perfect (mushroom). They list the colors as red, green, yellow, and white – but to my eyes the red is more pink.

kth_xmas_bemerrypup

I combined a bunch of sets to create this cute little doggie scene. Again most of this is paper pieced. After cutting out the dog from pattern paper, I stamped just the eyes onto white and cut that out and plopped them on the pattern dog.

Does anyone else have issues with the Potpourri set leaving ink behind in the “open” spaces? My harlequin image from the same set does it too. None of my other sets do this – they are more deeply etched (if that is the right terminology).

Thanks for taking a peek!

Colors: Primrose Petals, Lucky Limeade, So Saffron, White (SU);

New Driver

Over the summer one of our nephews passed his driver’s test (I just found out). I created this card to send to him.

kth_congrats_newdriver_metropolis

I have a tendency to collect pattern paper; I love looking at it, but I never think to use it (or it just never turns out right when I do). I’m trying hard to use the paper I’ve purchased this year – so this card has tons of paper piecing!

The layout is from the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge #3.

Thanks for taking a peek!
