Umbrella Dichotomy

I’m still playing with my PTI Umbrella set. This is such a fun set!

kth_badday_flippedumbrella

This first card is an idea I’ve had since I saw the set. Ya know it’s gonna be one of those days when your umbrella doesn’t cooperate 😉 The sentiment is from Verve (they have such cool sentiments!). The ‘wind’ is using one of the flourishes from the new PTI set (another awesome set). PTI has a dark grey paper, but it was too dark, so I used SU’s Basic Grey. PTI’s Soft Stone color though is very nice.

kth_sunshine_parasol

This second card was my first attempt at a card for the PTI Blog Hop (the challenge is to use yellow). I wanted the umbrella to be a parasol – so I stamped the flourish from With Sympathy and clear embossed it; then, on the back, I stamped the smaller umbrella and cut it out. Click the image to see the detail. I love how that part turned out, but the rest of the card just isn’t cutting it for me. I hope to work in another parasol in a future card because I think it is pretty.

Simply Lounging

Last week I purchased a couple sets from Our Craft Lounge and just had to play with them.

kth_relax_quietbeach

This first card uses Coastal Wishes. A set I bought because it makes me think of my mom. She loves the beach, and lighthouses, and pelicans….well – I can make lots of cards for her with this set! Since I’ve been in a ‘simple’ stamping mood lately, I kept this one very simple with no layers and just a little color. I have debated about adding a black outline around the image, but I’m afraid it will ruin it, so I’ve left it!

kth_bday_sweetcookies

My second card uses the other set I bought – a baking set. I don’t really cook/bake, but I do love food (especially sweet stuff), so I can see making cards that are food related 🙂 This one is for a friend with a birthday coming up soon.

Relax & Enjoy
Stamps: Coastal Wishes (OCL);
Ink: Noir (Palette), Cool Carribean, Mellow Moss (SU), Bamboo (CTMH);

Rain or Shine

kth_loveyou_rainorshine

Earlier this week a new Clean and Simple challenge was posted on SCS (CAS15). The challenge was a color challenge – Black, White, and one Bold Bright color. I just received the PTI Scattered Showers set in the mail yesterday, so I decided to use that. I kept the layout simple so the pop of color would be the focal.

Inside I stamped the Wellie from Green Thumb in turquoise ink.

I Love You
Stamps: Scattered Showers, Green Thumb (PTI);
Ink: Noir (Palette);
Paper: White, Black (PTI); Tempting Turquoise Prints (SU);
Other: turquoise ribbon (SU), embossing (CB);

Tweet Birds

kth_hello_tweetbirds

Today’s card was done for the Moxie Fab Color Challenge (blog post). The colors felt summery to me. I just received my PTI Bird Watching sets, so it didn’t take long to figure out how to get started. The layout is from PageMaps (March 2009).

I didn’t bother with a photo, but I did stamp the birdhouse stack on the inside.

Ink: Summer Sunrise, River Rock, Old Olive (SU);

Inkup Camp Cards

I finished my June Camp assignment yesterday. June’s camp will be focusing on stamps that were not recently released. Mom and I have such different tastes in stamps that it is hard to find sets that we both have (so I can do development here in HI and she can host camp in VA). But we did find two sets that met all the criteria – Pick a Petal and Baroque Motifs.

kth_bday_petaldots

First up is my Pick a Petal card. The white grommets are available in the Occasions mini catalog, so we definitely needed to use them in June. And I think this card suits the grommet perfectly. The grommets are a bit of a pain, but worth it! She doesn’t have Stem Sayings, but luckily, since I unmount, it will be easy to mail the set to her. I really love the color combo on this one too!

kth_cherish_flourishedposy

Next up is my Baroque Motifs card. Mom still has lots of Bella Rose DSP, and the damask print from that pack is a great choice to pair with the Baroque Motifs set. This is another color combo I love – Riding Hood Red and Always Artichoke.

A Broken Challenge

kth_brokenheart

My mom issued a challenge to her customers: Create a card to commiserate broken bones, a major operation, stubbed toe, hangnails, or the like. Under the weather cards do not count.

That is a challenge! I don’t have any SU stamps that would really work for that. Thankfully Pick a Petal is on my design todo list for June. Since I had it out, this concept sorta threw itself at me. It is for a broken heart.

kth_brokenheart_inside

I added some uplifting wording on the inside – though many many other options presented themselves too. I hope I never have to send such a card, but I do like how it turned out!

Spring Poppies

kth_getwell_teapot

Time for another challenge over on the PTI forums. This week I decided to do a color challenge, hence the disparity in post title and card image 🙂 See my other options were Pure Moss, Poppy Moss, or Mossy Poppies – none of which made sense and were actually a little scary sounding! Anywho, the challenge is to create a card using Pure Poppy, Spring Moss, and Kraft.

This is the card I created for the challenge. I used the new Green Tea Leaves pattern paper and Tea for Two stamp set. I also used the sketch from a PTI challenge a couple weeks ago.

I added a design to the tea pot using a little ornamental stamp from the Borders & Corners Rectangle set. And I colored the lid and base of the teapot to help finish it off.

Ink: Ripe Avocado;
Paper: Kraft, Pure Poppy, Green Tea Leaves DSP, Ripe Avocado, Spring Moss, Naturals Cream (SU);

Rockin’ Roses

kth_friends_rockinroses

Ahhhh, I love it when it works right! I just wish I could have gotten a better photo – this is so much prettier IRL.

This card is for two challenges – both are Tuesday challenges over on SplitCoast. The first challenge is a color challenge (CC218); the second challenge is a Clean and Simple challenge (CAS14).

The colors are so summery and there are a ton of great cards in the gallery already. I was actually a little worried about trying to come up with something unique. But when I started thinking about incorporating the CAS challenge too, then the Roses in Winter set called out to me and I thought I would be safe.

I don’t know why but when I think CAS I think white. I know “white” isn’t necessary for a CAS card, but to me they go hand-in-hand.

The CAS hostess is looking for a summer DT. I am going to apply – and this card is definitely going to be in my list. Wish me luck – there are already a bunch of talented folks that have applied!

Glad We’re Friends
All supplies Stampin’Up! unless otherwise noted.
Stamps: Roses in Winter, Label Classics, Best Yet;
Ink: Summer Sun, Only Orange, Kiwi Kiss;
Paper: White (PTI), Kiwi Kiss;

Floral Bandana

kth_floralbandana

Today is the technique challenge over on SCS (TLC220). The technique is bandana. This is a cool technique – the only thing you need is a white gel pen for adding accents to your black on color stamping. Easy peasy (well, maybe a tiny time consuming, but worth it). The layout is from a PageMaps sketch (here).

Floral Bandana
Stamps: True Friend (SU);
Ink: Noir (Palette);
Paper: Groovy Guava (SU), Ripe Avocado (PTI);
Other: white gel pen, avocado twill, button, dimensionals, circle punch.

Mother’s Day Cards

I was a little late getting my cards in the mail, but I’m pretty sure they arrived today. So I feel safe in posting the cards.

kth_mothersday2009_flowers

First up is the card I sent to my mom. I recently got some Flower Soft. (Joyclynn sent it to me! Thank you again!) I’ve been wanting to try it, but I think I aimed a little high for my first attempt, lol. I chose a pretty big flower and then stamped it multiple times. The final focal image ended up taking up most of the card. I tried to embellish it, but I only managed a couple little touches. I do like the card, but it isn’t the fabulous card my mom deserves!That’s what I get for letting it sneak up on me.

kth_mothersday2009_beachy

This card is for my mother-in-law. My hubby picked the colors and theme. It is a pretty simple card. I did decide I need to get some CTMH paper – they have a color – Bamboo – that is awesome. I have the ink, but for some reason I didn’t get the paper. I remedied that this weekend 🙂
