CC&S #310 – Full of Sunshine

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Full of Sunshine | by karen h @ carefree creations

I was stumped a little by this sketch, but after going through my supply index, I found the cloud die and worked from there.

The border/edge dies were used to cut the non straight sides; the stitched frame die did the perforations on the straight sides. My first thought was the dies would go edge to edge, but once I added the stitched sides and then trimmed them the same margin as the curved edges, then the die was shorter than the card. I actually liked that look!

CC&S #309 – You Make Life Zingy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

You Make Life Zingy | by karen h @ carefree creations

Since I did yellow flowers a couple weeks ago, I wanted to do something different. I decided lemons. I only have this one from PaperSmooches. It comes with a smiley face (with pucker lips), but since red/pink wasn’t a color in the challenge, I decided to leave the face off.

I used 2 yellow Copic markers and tried not to blend them too much to show the different yellows from the color scheme.

Sadly I didn’t have a sentiment that worked, so I had to make my own. The first bit is a phrase from another set (yay – it was already in that order – no fussy stamping!!), the “zingy” is made with an alphabet set. The alphabet set has each letter with a couple different fonts. In putting it together, I decided to use the ZIGY in the same simple font and the N with the fancy font – I think it turned out great!

Muah | by karen h @ carefree creations

This lip set is so fun, but I don’t use it often. I saw the set when I was deciding what to stamp for last week’s color challenge. I do wish there was couple more sizes in the set (something smaller than the largest and smaller than the smallest).

I kinda wish I had done a darker color for the sentiment (to stand out against the dark pink lips), but I didn’t want to do black. Pretty sure it is still readable enough.

Hogs & Kisses | by karen h @ carefree creations

I love this Piggy set – pretty sure I’ve said that any time I post a card with this set. When I saw these colors, I knew I’d use this set again – and there was an image I hadn’t used yet, so….it just made sense 🙂

Such a fun image – love those little kissy lips! The lips are were I used the dark pink color.

The grey is very lightly watercolored around the piggy.

Baking Makes Life Sweeter | by karen h @ carefree creations

Kitchen is not a theme I would have immediately thought of for these colors, but after perusing my digital index for awhile, I spotted this set and realized it could work!

A very easy-peasy card. Truly took just a few minutes to make. I stamped the oven mitt and spatula on a separate piece of paper and then just quickly colored over the whole image and outline. Then I fussy cut the items out – right up against their outline.

CC&S #303 – Peace Hope & Joy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Peace | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I made this card it was quite cold out, so while I did have some other ideas for this sketch, I ended up staying with a winter theme.

The way the sketch is colored, it seems like the wavy layer was on top of the focal panel and see-through — I liked that idea. Since vellum is such a pain for me (to stamp and adhere), I decided to stamp the branches over the focal panel and background. To get it all lined up, I used a MISTI.

The final layer of the bird is a grey ink (the same as the feet).

CC&S #302 – Christmas Bubbles

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

This week we look back to our sketch challenges from this year, pick one, and make a holiday card. I chose this fun sketch (click the image to go to that past challenge):

And here is my take:

Christmas Bubbles | by karen h @ carefree creations

I’m breaking out an oldie for this one!

Boy this card took some effort! I knew this end result is what I wanted, but getting there didn’t work the way I wanted. I started by using some circle dies to cut my openings. I had started with 2 sizes (the little and the medium), but I added a larger one to have some variation. I changed the original configuration of icons so that the sentiment would be in the large bubble.

I made marks on my card base so that I could sponge the color where it should go. That actually went ok. But then I needed to stamp the icons. Here is where my problems began (and why I love photopolymer so much). These are wood mounted stamps and I could not easily place my images. I suppose I could have broken out my old Stamp-a-ma-jig, but I didn’t. Most of them could fit through the windows, but some couldn’t so I had to hold my hand “in place” while I removed the window layer. Of course I didn’t get the icons stamped properly and it bugged me mightily! I ended up die cutting the circles from my sponged layer.

I still wanted the window layer popped up, so I laid it on my card base, adhered the colored circles and then popped the window layer above.

It needed something and the few things I tried were just too much. I was going to do enamel dots, but I didn’t have what I wanted, so I switched to sequins. I’m normally a silver gal, but for this the gold was calling me.

When I got done I was “eh, done is done”, but I like it more and more every time I see it. Yay!

I really love this elegant color scheme – and it works so nicely for the holidays too!

I decided to break out some older Christmas sets. I didn’t use any dies – I fussy cut the bow and stocking.
