Smooch Spark – Hello

I got a chance to play in the latest Sparks Challenge – a sketch!

kth_hello_giraffe

I’ve been wanting to use this cutie giraffe for awhile and this sketch was perfect for it! The grass is acting as the cross-section panel in the sketch.

Thanks for taking a peek!

FYI – Fall Tree

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI38.

FYI38_2013-01-17

This is such a beautiful picture. Orange/yellow trees are my favorite in the fall. I definitely wanted to recreate that!

kth_sympathy_falltree

I needed a sympathy card and feel the fall tree works well with that sentiment.

I embossed the card base with a woodgrain texture.

The tree image is stamped offset to leave room for the twine.

To ink up the leaves, I started with my lightest color then added the next shade and then the darkest. I went back over the lighter color (with the lightest ink) to help blend (then I just smooshed the pad onto scrap paper to get the darker color off the pad).

As a final touch I decided to add a tag with a little heart in it.

Latte Wishes

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> #7 – sketch.

And here is my take:

kth_bday_LatteWishes

For this sketch, I started by browsing my digital stamp index and looking for things that I could put as the trio of accents across the banner. I came up with a few ideas, but since the Hot Concoctions set hadn’t been inked yet, I thought that would be my best choice 🙂

To cut the cup, I did cut up the side and through the bottom handle to cut out the little piece between handle and cup. Once I was done I just put a tiny piece of tape to hold it back together and all is fine (much easier for me than an exacto knife).

For the cup contents I used Dark Chocolate ink, but stamped off to get a mottled sort of look.

The steam is done with glitter embossing powder.

Never Be Forgotten

kth_sympathy_willow-specialsomeone - Copy

This is another sympathy card I needed recently.

This one is for a man so I tried to keep the froufrou down (though I needed to add the ribbon).

I did use more color on this card, but I kept it to muted colors.

FYI – Birthday Shells

It is time for another For Your Inspiration challenge. Check out the latest challenge -> FYI37.

FYI37_2013-01-03

This is a cool photo. I loved the white clouds on the blue sky. And the photo theme allowed me to make a birthday card for my beach-loving mom.

kth_bday_textshells

I embossed the shells with white powder. Since the shells have a text background to them, I added a strip of text paper and wrapped it up with some string.

One note, my embossing has never been this good. I had been blaming old powder, but even after a fresh batch I had issues. Why it took me so long, I don’t know – but I finally re-inked my Versamark pad. And now I have perfect embossing! I need to get better at re-inking everything!

A final note, my card is a bit shorter than normal (5 1/4 x 4 1/4). The reason is that I did not stamp my sentiment straight. I straightened it up by trimming the panel, then just trimmed my card base to match. Just another way to save a card.

The color scheme is very earthy. To make the card light, I used the colors in little bits and kept lots of white space.

Inspired

albis4_spillmannechsle

As I was pinning earlier this week, I ran across this photo that caught my eye (Photo Source). I love the basket weave pattern on the diagonal.

Since I had some free time today, I decided to catch up on some challenges.

I decided to use this staircase photo as my inspiration along with the current CAS Colours & Sketches challenge (#4) – a color challenge using Night of Navy, Pool Party, and So Saffron.

kth_thinkingofyou_paperstrips

I started by die cutting the Midnight Muse strip. I ran that through my Xyron and attached it to a Vanilla strip (so I could easily play around with its position and not have anything showing through). I picked out some patterns in the other colors and then played around with their order and how much of each would be visible.

I also played with whether the patterns would be diagonal or straight on but cut at an angle. Since I used the border die on a diagonal, I kept the patterns that way too.

Making a Difference

My husband requested I make some cards he could give out at the office. They are doing a charity drive and the cards are for the top givers.

This is a government office so I went with a patriotic color scheme. Since the cards could go to either gender, I stayed away from frou-frou.

I did try 3 predominately red stars and I really liked having one white star – now if I just understood why! I think it just feels more dynamic and less predictable.

In addition, he wanted one card that was “more”. I have a hard time with more – especially if I don’t know the gender! I ended up adding a few touches and created this one:

I’m not sure anyone but a crafter would notice the “more” but at least it is different.

This is the inside of all the cards:

For the inside I used the Super Star border die, Seeing Stars die, and an image from Military Stars.

If you are interested, here is the card I did last year.

Halloween Flashback

I know, I know. Not only has turkey day passed and my neighbors have Christmas decorations already up – but here I am posting a Halloween card.

This was a card for my secret sister, so I couldn’t post it when I created it, but I still wanted to share it.

I had just received the spooky music background stamp and just had to use it. I added a bit of cheesecloth wrapping and stitching. Pretty simple, but then those are my favorite cards.

Christmas Whimsy

This is my second project for InkUp. My task was to use Stylin’ Snowfolk to make a whimsical style card.

This stamp set certainly makes “whimsy” easy! I went with brighter colors that I felt worked with the whimsy style.

I stamped the snowman body, including face and buttons, onto white paper and cut him out. The arms are stamped onto the Bashful Blue panel.

The hills are hand cut.

Thanks for taking a peek!
