Clean & Simple Class – Day 2

Day 2 was all about totally flat cards. One concept presented was using masking to make it seem like there were layers. Honestly, I just felt to lazy to try that. The other concept was a good layout balanced by heaviness of the images.

My first card attempted that. I used both the solid and outlined images to differ the weight.

While this is a mistletoe image, I made sure my colors and sentiment allowed that the card could be a Valentine or a Christmas card.

his next card attempts the weighted layout by varying the color. I also trimmed the card square because my images were small. I used a lighter color at the top and a darker one on the left. The sentiment feels like a good anchor to me (love the vertical flow of the sentiment).

Hopefully I can get caught up this weekend!

Clean & Simple Class – Day 1

I’m already a day behind! BUT I was able to do all 3 sketches today – yay! So maybe I’ll stay only a day behind 🙂

This is my first card. I did cheat a bit. I stamped the background over the entire card base – no masking. Then after I punched out the flowers, I backed that corner with some plain card stock. I had to add the bling – the card just didn’t feel done without it.

The second card is my favorite of the three. One day I’ll figure out how to take better pictures!

I started by picking the colors. I knew I needed a good poppin’ combo with this simple layout.

I like to keep my cards somewhat flat – since 95% of my cards go in the mail – so instead of a real button, I die-cut the button.

I’m actually pretty happy with how this final card turned out. I’m normally not really good at picking out a color scheme that involves more than a couple colors, lol. I picked out paper first and then just did my best to match it.

I bought this stamp set just for this image – it is my favorite cupcake image. It was actually quite fun piecing it all together.

Happy Day Birdie

I created this card for two challenges. First, the colors are from the Play Date Cafe – a challenge blog I’ve been stalking for awhile but this is my first entrance (pdcc113). The layout is a Fall-to-Layout from Clean & Simple Stamping (ftl172).

I really loved the soothing colors and felt that the birdie could only be relaxed if free from the cage. 🙂

The scallop border is done by overlapping a couple square die cuts.

Joyful Flower

I created this card for the Less is More challenge – Just One Word (challenge #47). The idea being to use only 1 word on the card.

Once I saw this stamp with the word as part of the image, I knew I wanted to use it. I decided to incorporate a Fall-to-Layout as well (ftl171).

I picked the DSP first and then looked for a flower color to compliment. I settled on Calypso – a very pretty melonish color (and I had coordinating ribbon – always a bonus!).

Hoppy Snapshot

I got into Copic markers after Unfrogettable retired, but I still don’t know why it took me so long to put these two favorites together! I love this little froggie – he makes me smile every time!

This is a very simple card. I wanted a Polariod look, so I used a square die to cut a window from a piece of white cardstock. I stamped my image onto light yellow cardstock and colored with green Copics. The marker didn’t blend as well as on white cardstock, but it worked well enough.

Hey Chickie

I created this card a few weeks ago, but haven’t had a chance to post it – so now I am!

When I first decided to pair these two cuties together, I wasn’t sure what to do with them, but the “hey chickie” sentiment got my brain rolling. I was so happy that the little flower pot from Friendly Flowers was sized perfectly to be a telephone cup!

This was a lot of fun to put together! Thanks for taking a peek!

You’re the Bird

I created this card for the latest Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge (rainbow text poster).

I love rainbows, so I knew I would definitely use that from the inspiration photo. The poster included text to encourage a person, so I used that concept when picking my image and sentiment.

I stamped the body and feathers onto white paper and colored them. Then I cut them out and arranged them as I wanted. As a finishing touch I added colored bling to the feather centers.

The inspiration photo included sub text in grey, so my sentiment is stamped onto grey paper. Finally the card base is embossed with a wood grain pattern.

Santa Flying By

I am a guest designer for this week’s Clean & Simple challenge at SCS (cas150). The challenge was “windows”. There is a lot of interpretation that could be done for that (and I’ll probably be making another card later today), but this card is what first came to mind.

I used a die from PTI to create the window. Since this should be Clean & Simple, I kept the interior design down to a minimum – no drapes, just white wood paneling. I added a tiny touch of color with a red rhinestone in the sentiment.

Worlds Apart

I created this card for mom’s stamp camp last month. My assignment was to use Zoo Review. Since the theme for that camp was the winter holidays, I decided to use the two cold-weather animals.

I know polar bears and penguins don’t co-habitate, but that made me think about how many “invisible” friends I have online – which lead me to the sentiment 🙂

Nature’s Tree

I was inspired by an adorable card by Julie(HRR) and a cool trimming idea by Lisa Young.

I actually pinned Lisa’s tree when she posted it in October – I wanted to do a tree with sections trimmed with lace or something. But it wasn’t until I saw Julie’s card layout that I figured out how to make my tree into a card.

I originally didn’t want to overwhelm the card with patterned paper as the sky, but now I wish I had at least embossed the background or found a subtle pattern.
