Birthday in Paradise

I made this card to be used by my mom for an upcoming stamp camp. Mom’s clients have been wanting to see more cards without embellishment. Oh, I can do that! And a bonus, this is a masculine card. [Actually, I might have to make another for my hubby’s birthday!]

I used craft ink to stamp the leaves. I was hoping for more opaque coverage, but I’m kinda liking it this the way.

Butterfly Rainbow

I’m catching up on missed CAS challenges. Last week’s challenge was dry embossing (cas75). You’d never catch me with a stylus (too hard), but I love embossing folders and impression plates – quick and easy. The butterflies are also embossed (the die does it at the same time that it cuts – very cool).

Other: white organdy ribbon, Impressions Plate, Butterfly die (SU); ribbon tag die (Spellbinders);

Cardinal Christmas

So this card really did start out for a CAS challenge (cas76), but I just don’t think this qualifies for CAS any more. What it does qualify for is the DTGD challenge – red, yellow, green.

I love cardinals. There are cardinals here in Hawaii (not something I thought I would see), but they aren’t the all red ones I’m used to in Virginia. They have a read head and black & white body – very striking (see – not my photo).

Colors: Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Riding Hood Red, So Saffron, Vanilla (SU);

Snowmen in Bermuda

I’ve been stamping practically non-stop for most of the week now (not a normal thing for me). The past couple of days my girls have decided they want to stamp too. So we all did the DTGD ‘winter/christmas’ challenge.

My card started with ribbon. My mom cut a bunch of ribbon for a stamp camp and then didn’t use it – so she sent it to me! Thankfully Bermuda Bay is one of my favorite colors. The card uses sketch #92 for the layout.

The girls have been infatuated with my Inkadinkadoo Beautiful Fairies stamp set. It has gotten much love these past few days! They both made Christmas fairies but had them making it snow – so both themes were covered.

Hoppy Birthday

When I first looked at this DTGD sketch challenge I was going to pass it up, but I checked out the gallery and decided I could do it – I just had to find the right set. I had other ideas, but I think because I haven’t used Unfrogettable in so long and it is one of my favorites (see), I decided to use it.

I chose the paper next (thinking I’d throw in the “mixing patterns” challenge too, but, well, as you can see, I didn’t). The colors in the paper set the tone for the card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Country Greetings

Today a few more DTGD challenges were posted. One was to do “rural”. I’m not much of a country fan, but I do have a few sets that would fall in that category. I chose this one because I don’t use it very much. I added some stitching to fulfill another DTGD challenge.

Saved?

This card began a few days ago for a ‘white space’ DTGD challenge I started this card with a simple box, sentiment and crocheted flower. Then I got the “brilliant” idea to lightly sponge white craft ink inside the box to help set it off. But that just felt unfinished. I set it aside for a couple days and thought I should add some sort of stamping on the inside to help detract from the sponging.

Then another DTGD challenge was posted – a CAS challenge to use tone on tone stamping. So I had to pull this back out and give it a second chance. It definitely improved, but I still think it is a bit off.

So, as a pair of fresh eyes, what do you think – did I save it?

A big thank you (THANK YOU!) to J for sharing her crocheted flowers with me!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Inspired Texture

I’m a little behind on my CAS challenge cards, so I went back a couple weeks to an inspiration challenge (cas74). I’m not sure the card is all that simple (at least compared to my normal CAS cards), but it feels clean to me. I snuck in a couple DTGD challenges as well.

The CAS challenge was to find inspiration from cakes found on Carrie’s Cakes’ website. I chose a beautiful autumn leaves & berries cake. I haven’t used this old SU set in forever. The cake has such a beautiful sheen to it – I used SU’s glitter paper as the focal layer base.

Once I picked the inspiration, I noticed that I could easily incorporate a couple DTGD challenges as well – ‘texture’ and a sketch. My texture comes in three ways: the red card base is textured cardstock, the ribbon is satin (I think shiny is a texture even if it is visual and not tactile), and the cork frame.

Thanks for takin’ a peek.

Thank You

Rainbows & Cupcakes

How many posts in a row can I start with “This card was made for DTGD challenges on SCS”? I still have another one after this, so I guess I’ll try something new.

This card has had quite a life (and it hasn’t left my desk). First I die cut the ric-rac pieces for the faux challenge, but I couldn’t bring myself to follow the restrictions. Then I decided to I would post it as the stuff challenge (I did use a lot of stuff). But I finally decided the glitz challenge would be its home.

The glitz comes from some shaved iridescent plastic. I believe Magic Scraps sold it (don’t think they exist any more). Honestly I’m too lazy to go look again. I’ve had this stuff for years and this is maybe the second time I’ve used it (I added one just because I had to have used it in all these years, right??).

I really like this card – I think it is the rainbow ric-rac stitched on.

Whooo Loves You

I made this card for two DTGD challenges on SCS. One challenge was a sketch, the other was “wings”.

I always have issues with circles in sketches – I don’t know why…but I do. I wasn’t even going to do the sketch, but as I was looking through my stamp index for wings, this new (to me) set caught my eye and using the sketch fell together easily.

I have many Nesti dies – but no circles. I really wanted a mat for the owl layer. I decided I could make my own. I punched the Scallop Border and then made little cuts along the bottom so that I could bend the border around the layer.

Side note: Argh – Hawaiian Shores – argh! I’m impatiently waiting for PTI to reformulate their ink. I hope the matching is better and I’m hoping for regular dye ink (for the technique possibilities).
