CASology – Turn

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – TURN!

Here is my take:

You Turn Me On | by karen h @ carefree creations

I knew right away I wanted to go in this direction with the cue “turn”. When I was decided on this specific set of images, I was trying to decide how to give it some kick. After some thinking I remembered that I had purchased the Chibi light set a long time ago and never actually did anything with it.

I really wanted to keep this card ultra simple, so I came up with the idea of using the Chibi lights to back-light a heart when the power button is pressed.

After watching this video, I started putting together my card.

Here is my card lit up:

I’m totally happy with the idea. Unfortunately, this was my first time doing this and I didn’t think about how my foam tape would also be lit up. Next time, I’ll somehow do a circle of foam tape around the light(s).

Many Thanks | by karen h @ carefree creations

This is a Timeless Tuesday double challenge – meaning you need to use both the sketch AND the colors!

My card is a fairly literal take on the sketch and I did have all these colors still in my stash.

I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!

A Little About the Challenge: This weekly challenge is posted on Tuesday, and alternates between color and sketch (if there is a 5th week in the month you get the double dose of color & sketch).

CASology – Smile

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – SMILE!

Here is my take:

You Make Me Smile | by karen h @ carefree creations

This cat face image is a REALLY old stamp, but I can’t get rid of it because it really does make me smile!

A very simple card – one layer, go me – with just a teeny tiny touch of color. Can’t get much simpler than that!

CASology – Cloudy

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – CLOUDY!

Here is my take:

Smile in the Rain | by karen h @ carefree creations

I haven’t used this set yet (got it on clearance recently) and I like this cloud image, so this challenge seemed like a great time to get the set inky!

I kept the card simple. Where I wanted the sentiment meant it needed to overlap on the cloud. I used a MISTI to do the inking.

The cloud is fussy cut.

Baking Makes Life Sweeter | by karen h @ carefree creations

Kitchen is not a theme I would have immediately thought of for these colors, but after perusing my digital index for awhile, I spotted this set and realized it could work!

A very easy-peasy card. Truly took just a few minutes to make. I stamped the oven mitt and spatula on a separate piece of paper and then just quickly colored over the whole image and outline. Then I fussy cut the items out – right up against their outline.

CASology – Frozen

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – FROZEN!

Here is my take:

Keep Warm | by karen h @ carefree creations

My fiber is from ScrapGoods. Does anyone remember them? I used to be a subscriber ages ago – in fact the fiber is dated in 2003! (I am a very good hoarder!)

I wrapped the fiber around a panel to emulate a scarf. I like the little pop of color.

CC&S #303 – Peace Hope & Joy

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Peace | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I made this card it was quite cold out, so while I did have some other ideas for this sketch, I ended up staying with a winter theme.

The way the sketch is colored, it seems like the wavy layer was on top of the focal panel and see-through — I liked that idea. Since vellum is such a pain for me (to stamp and adhere), I decided to stamp the branches over the focal panel and background. To get it all lined up, I used a MISTI.

The final layer of the bird is a grey ink (the same as the feet).

CASology – Fresh

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – FRESH!

Here is my take:Fresh Start | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I first thought about the “fresh” cue, I had lots of ideas, but the new years theme stuck. I didn’t have any stamps that says fresh start, but I did have this sentiment – which is actually a birthday sentiment (I didn’t ink up the additional “happy birthday” line).

I paired the sentiment with a sunrise image and background.

This card made me remember that detail stamps don’t do well on watercolor paper 🙂  Some of the words lost their edges.

Wedding Swans

Wedding Swans | by karen @ carefree creationsThis card is bigger than an A2 (I forget how much bigger, but the width is enough for US money to be inside).

I added a sentiment inside that says “Sending you love & laughter and plenty of happily ever after” That sentiment actually has a “Happy Birthday” as part of it as well, but I just didn’t ink that.  A card that you’ll see in a couple days also uses a sentiment from this birthday stamp – but it isn’t a birthday card (love being able to multi-task a supply!).

So Happy
