CASology – Plastic

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Plastic!

Here is my take:

Sympathy | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I saw this week’s cue I immediately thought of this technique. It’s a pretty easy technique – just take a piece of plastic wrap, scrunch it up, ink it up, and use it to “stamp” on paper.

My original plan was to stamp the botanicals with black as a silhouette, but when it came time to stamp them, it felt that would be too bleak. I used colors from the technique instead.

CC&S #316 – Picnic Greetings

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Picnic Greetings | by karen h @ carefree creations

I decided this sketch is a great one for incorporating pattern paper (which for CAS cards, I prefer to limit pattern paper to just a bit). I had about 10 different packs of paper on my desk before I could narrow it down! This picnic tablecloth pattern really called my name, so I went with it.

The burger and ant/sentiment are fussy cut. For the ant/sentiment, I used my trimmer to get the straight lines above and below the sentiment then fussy cut around the ant. The ant/sentiment is popped up over everything.

You Make My Heart Happy

You Make My Heart Happy | by karen h @ carefree creations

I made this card for this week’s CC&S challenge, but afterwards I realized I used the wrong purple – argh! But I like it, so I decided to post it anyway.

It did take some work for me to like the card. Originally the card felt very flat (not to mention, there is a touch of purple on the peach butterfly’s top/right wing):

To help fix it, I added some washi under the sentiment and a sprinkle of sequins (one conveniently over the ink oops).

You Make My Heart Happy
Stamps: Flutter (Close to My Heart); Because You (My Favorite Things);
Ink: Grapefruit Grove, Highland Heather (SU);
Paper: White (Papertrey Ink); Granny Apple Green (SU);

Here is my take:

Wow! You did it! | by karen h @ carefree creations

When I first saw the cue was “burst” – using these explosion images was my first thought. I went with the classic comic book colors. The layered bits are fussy cut.

CC&S #314 – Thank You

Thank You | by karen h @ carefree creations

This stamp set made me think about Papertrey’s Cutaway Tags dies. Sadly, I don’t have those. But as I looked through my index, I found a sentiment split set that worked really well.

I recently purchased some watercolor pens and decided to give them a try on this card.

CASology – Ocean

It is time for a new CASology challenge. Check out the latest challenge – Ocean!

Here is my take:

Swim in the Sea | by karen h @ carefree creations

I frequently make cards where ocean is a theme, so I really don’t know why I struggled with this challenge, but I did. Some of the problem was that the things I tried did NOT work (why do I keep PearlEx powder in my stash – I can never make it work for me!).

My original idea was to pair this watercolor background with a jellyfish image, but that didn’t work (either because I messed up the jellyfish with the PearlEx or I realized the image was too small in comparison to the water). After a bit I decided I really wanted that water to take center stage anyway.

After stamping the palms on regular paper, I fussy cut it out and popped it over the water with dimensional adhesive. The sentiment is white embossed.

There is an extended deadline for this challenge! I hope you join us at CASology – and, for more inspiration, check out the other design team members:

CC&S #313 – Happy Birthday

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Blue Green Leaves | by karen h @ carefree creations

After some time, I finally chose which stamp set I was going to use and was trying to figure out how to work in the Sahara Sand (what color IS that any way??). Since that is a pale color, I thought it would be good as a background element.

I started by stamping my focal sentiment in dark grey (kinda wishing I had gone dark brown instead, but ya know, done is done). Then filled in the back with the images from the sentiment stamp set. Finally, I stamped the leaves.

Here is my take:

Til We're Fossils | by karen h @ carefree creations

I decided to do my card based on stuff found in the earth. The stamping was tone on tone to simulate fossils in the ground.

CC&S #312 – Enjoy the Ride

It is time for another CAS Colours & Sketches challenge. Check out the latest challenge:

And here is my take:

Enjoy the Ride | by karen h @ carefree creations

While I had the Admit One stamp set on my desk for last week’s card, I saw how it would work for this sketch too.

The “solid” bit of the ticket border was stamped with the back side of the outline image.

I had fun with the colors on this one. I feel like even though they are soft, it is still fun. When I was putting it together, I had light & dark yellow, light & dark pink, but only light blue. I didn’t have (nor really want) an outline to the blue “ticket” behind the carousel. I decided to stamp the sentiment in the dark blue and it all seems good to me.

To finish off, I added a touch of glitter to the centered carousel horse.
